Matthew Cavan

Matthew is a Belfast-based actor, singer and performer with over 15 years' professional experience across theatre, musical theatre, opera and screen. Within musical theatre, Matthew has worked extensively across both established repertoire and contemporary new writing. His extensive credits across all genres of theatre include SWEENEY TODD, THE THREEPENNY OPERA, KISS ME, KATE, TEN PLAGUES and ABOMINATION: A DUP OPERA. He is also a core member of one of Northern Ireland's leading contemporary theatre companies, The Belfast Ensemble, and has performed with the company across a range of critically acclaimed productions.

On screen, his recent work includes KILL OR BE KILLED, a BBC green-lit short film for Deadpan, where he acts opposite Claire Rafferty and Paddy Raff. A testament to his footprint on the Belfast theatre scene, Matthew was recently handpicked to feature in the Lyric Theatre Belfast's 75th Anniversary Gala Concert, where he performed alongside the Ulster Orchestra in a celebration of the theatre's history and artistic legacy.

Alongside his work as Matthew Cavan, he performs as his drag persona, Cherrie Ontop, through which he leans into a distinctly comedic and musical performance style. Cherrie has become another incredibly important facet of Matthew's work, allowing him to showcase his range as a performer across all disciplines.
